Granny pod sounds like something out of a science fiction book, but it’s not quite out of this world. In fact, they are very close to home – right in the backyard! Granny pods are tiny houses that allow our aging parents to avoid the expensive and dangerous nursing homes. Where better to have them live than in their own personal apartment right out back?
Downsizing your parents from their old family home can be difficult, especially if they have lots of important personal possessions. It can be a struggle to move on from the life that you lived, which has imparted itself into the very foundation of your home.
It’s not easy to give up all that and everyone needs to recognize that. Growing older isn’t the easiest thing in the world. in fact, sometimes it can be really difficult when your friends start passing away and the clock sets in.
Take advantage of those later years with a granny pod! This ingenius idea allows grandparents to be close to grandkids, their children and helps them spend more time with family. They are much safer right out back as well, considering the horrific cases of abuse that have happened in nursing homes.
It’s also a lot cheaper than a nursing home which can run several thousand dollars per month. In addition to everyday expenses, that alone can bankrupt a loving but financially-unstable family. Some people don’t think they have any other option though, at least until now!
Granny pods let aging parents and their adults kids get along far better as well. Grandma and grandpa should have their own space, with an easy way for them to get in and out of the house if they are still driving. Yet they are still close at hand in case a medical emergency comes up.
Rather than missing important family events because they struggle to do everyday tasks, elderly people with kids that own a home now have a far better option. While not everyone has a kid that has a backyard that can fit a tiny home like this, those that do will probably find it a preferable option for a potentially abusive nursing home.
While not all nursing homes have proven abuse, enough of it happens that kids should be concerned about their parent’s well-being. Always ensure that your parents are being cared for by trustworthy and loving providers. If not, spend your hard-earned money getting them coverage somewhere that hires caretakers that actually, you know… care about their patients.
