Mom’s Babies Cause Shockwaves In The Medical field, Only Happens Once Every 200 Million Births

Whether twins or Triplets, multiple births are quite remarkable and exciting but can be equally daunting since a lot of efforts have to go into taking care of two or three little ones. Of course, everyone still finds them absolutely beautiful and adorable and a lot of people still wish to have twins or triplets despite the obvious stress involved in caring for them. When Becki-jo found out that she was pregnant she wasn’t wishing for or expecting multiple births.

But life is full of surprises and Becky-Jo got more than what she could have ever wished for at the same time.

Becki-Jo already had a daughter named Indiana, so this wasn’t her first pregnancy but when she discovered she might be pregnant and went in for a scan to confirm it, she was shocked to discover that she was going to be having triplets.

“I had been being very sick and had a really bad headache so I booked an early scan and that was when I found out I was expecting triplets,” she said.

Becki-Jo claims that the announcement was the biggest shock of her life which is quite understandable since she had no history of triplets or even twins in her family. Nevertheless, she braced herself for what was to come and with the help of her friends and family, got ready to welcome three new babies.

Her three boys, Rocco, Roman, and Rohan were born 31 weeks later and although they had a little struggle at first and had to stay back at NICU for three weeks before they could go home, the boys recovered pretty well and attained a healthy weight.

But Becki-Jo didn’t even know the best part yet. It was when she got home with the triplets she discovered something truly amazing about her kids. She noticed that the boys looked completely identical.

Although having identical twins is quite common, the probability of ever having triplets that were identical ranges from between 1 in 60,000 to as much as 1 in 200 million. This was staggering in fact, statistics show that these little boys are the youngest of the handful of naturally conceived triplets in the UK. Identical triplets only occur when a single fertilized egg splits twice after fertilization.

When this happens the twins or triplets share a single membrane in the womb which would make them Monozygotic and turn out as identical twins or triplets that can only be distinguished from non-identical siblings through a DNA test.

Giving the slight chance of the boys being identical, Becki-jo decided to check just to be sure and sent swaps of their DNA to a lab for testing. She said: “I was always convinced they weren’t because that’s what I had been told during my pregnancy.

I got in touch with a company who sent me some swabs and within three days of me sending them back, they told me the boys were identical… We don’t get anywhere fast because people are always stopping us when we’re out and asking if they are identical. ”

People usually have a hard time telling the three boys apart and their mother is usually the one that can really tell them apart. She says she can do that quite easily.

According to her, “Rohan is the loud one. He’s always shouting. Rocco is normally quite laid-back, but he can be feisty too, while Roman is usually complaining that he doesn’t want to share.

They’re always crawling about after the same toy, trying to get to it before their brothers do. Indiana loves them, she’s not one bit jealous – I do feel a bit sorry for her when I think what it’s going to be like growing up with three little brothers though. ”

With Indiana and three little boys, it’s definitely a full house every day in Becki-Jo’s home. But Becki-Jo gets all the help she can manage from the 17-year-old sister and the rest of the family. A lot also goes into taking care of the boys as they go through up to 130 diapers in a single week and exhaust a pack of baby formula in just two days.

It has really been a hectic time for the young mother whose hope of becoming a neonatal nurse has been placed on hold for now because of the boys. But with her experience with the boys, she hopes to still pursue that career path the moment when her kids her older.

“All the help and medical attention we’ve received has been wonderful. I’m just so happy they’re all doing so well now.” She said.

Becki-jo definitely has her hands full and she needs a lot of help in so many ways to take care of her kids properly, but if these little ones can defy all odds to be born under such miraculous circumstances, we have no doubt that everything will turn out well for Becki-Jo and her triplets at the end of the day.
